underrated christmas favorites

eating too much, drinking too much, shopping too much...what's not to love about the holiday season?! while there are many things i enjoy about this time of year, a few stand out above the rest as helping me to be my merriest and brightest.

1. all i want for christmas

sometimes i feel like i'm the only person that's ever seen this movie, but it's usually on tv at least once or twice in december. never mind the fact that i have it on dvd because i can't get enough of a young ethan embry (then, ethan randall), his dad's apartment with a pinball machine in it, a cute mouse named snowball, kevin nealon as his mom's mean new boyfriend, his crush from boston with perfect hair, and all of the other things that make this movie a classic.

2. hanson's christmas album, snowed in

i am completely, 100% dead serious when i say that this is the best christmas album ever made. i have listened to it every year since thanksgiving day in 1997 when my parents surprised my teenybopping-ass with it. flawless from beginning to end. youtube sampler above for you poor, deprived souls who have never heard this gem.

3. eggnog

i kind of pretend to be cool and say i enjoy eggnog mostly for the spiking possibilities, but the disgusting truth is that i could drink a carton straight with no spirits...and 75% of the time i pretty much do. um, it's like melted ice cream!

  1. My underrated Christmas favorites
    1. Just Friends: Seriously one of the funniest holiday movies around. Glad Comedy Central plays it in December.
    2. Claymation Christmas- With the California Raisins, et. al. Made in the 80s. Classic. "Here We Come a Wafflin."
    3. Boyz II Men, Silent Night. I mean, wow. Perfect. And nobody plays it on the radio!

  2. loves it! all of these are fantastic. and for real, i feel like everything boyz II men just faded away with the new millennium. we need to bring them back.

  3. I love my eggnog without the inebriation too. Add to that my sister's homemade Christmas cookies and Celine Dion's 'Oh Holy Night'.

  4. perfect! i forgot to mention that i love mariah carey's "all i want for christmas is you", too :)

  5. I agree that Hanson album is pretty mmmmFestive, and I too enjoy a good carton of the Nog, but I have to say, not only have I never seen that movie, I've never even heard of it.

    Here are my additions...

    4) Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas - and it has to be the original one with Kermit the Frog as the narrator.
    5) RuPaul's christmas album called 'HoHoHo' - AMAZING. I highly recommend her version of 'All Alone on Christmas' if you've never heard it.
    6) Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale - It tastes like Christmas and Crazy Family all in one bottle.

  6. oh man, i'm not familiar with any of these things, but i'm so excited to add all them to my holiday stockpile!
